Assalamualaikum,

I'd like to share a touching story with u guys. First, I shall start by sharing a couple of verses from the Quran before i begin my story.

" And the likeness of those who spend their wealth seeking Allâh's Pleasure while they in their ownselves are sure and certain that Allâh will reward them (for their spending in His Cause), is the likeness of a garden on a height; heavy rain falls on it and it doubles its yield of harvest. And if it does not receive heavy rain, light rain suffices it. And Allâh is All-Seer of (knows well) what you do. " (2:265 Al Quran)

In this verse, Allah has said about spending our "wealth", it can be as a symbol for any sort of "wealth" He has granted us. Our health is also a part of our "wealth". Our leisure time is a sort of wealth for us. What about energy? If anything is spent in Allah's way, anything at all, maybe even sleep in order to do da'wah, will be blessed a great reward. But one must always remember that syaithan always reminds us of poverty. Poverty does not mean in materialistic means. Poverty means in a constant state of in need. Syaithan always tells us to be selfish, not spend anything in Allah's path. But we should ask ourself, who do we love more? Is it Allah who promises us Jannah, or syaithan who promises us destruction?

So what is the story that I am gonna share today. Well, there was this girl, whose name was Fatimah. She was in the Supermarket with her mother, and she saw this beautiful fake pearl necklace hanging on one of the shelves. Fatimah is a little girl (ghulam in arabic). When she saw that necklace, she was so excited and told her mother "Mummy, Mummy! Can I have that necklace? Please.....". Mother looked at it, and it costs $2.00. She asked Fatimah how much she had with her. Fatimah checked her pocket, and sadly, she said she only had 80cents. Her mother replied "Ok, tomorrow's your birthday. Granny's gonna give you $1, and with that u have a total of $1.80. Then you could probably do some chores to earn extra money. "

So Fatimah went home happy, and she did just that. She did some chores to earn some extra cash. She finally got enough money the next day to come and buy her fake pearl necklace at the Supermarket. She loved that necklace so much. She would wear it everywhere she went, even shen she slept, except when she bathed because it was a fake necklace. Mother had said that it would leave green marks on her body if she wore the fake necklace during her baths.

As usual, every night before she went to sleep, Dad would come in and say her a bedtime story. One day, Dad asked Fatimah, "Do you love me Fatimah?". She replied "Oh yes Dad, sure, I love you so much." Dad said "Give me your necklace." She said "Noooooo, you can take anything except that." So Dad left her alone. The next night he came in as usual. After reading her bedtime story, he asked her. "Do you love me Fatimah?". She said "Oh yes Dad, I love you sooo much.". "Give me your necklace,"he replied. "Oh nooo, you can take anything except my necklace Dad. Here, take this teddy you gave me for my birthday last year. Take anything you want except my necklace." So Dad just left her and went out of the room.

Now, the next 2 days, Dad did not come in as usual. On the third night, Dad came in as usual. And Fatimah was all teared at that moment. Her eyes were red. And just as she saw Dad, she opened her hand clutch and there was her fake pearl necklace in it. "Here Daddy, you can take the necklace. I love you more than the stupid necklace. Please don't leave me anymore next time, " she said while sobbing. Dad took the necklace, and put it in his pocket. Then, he took out something from his other pocket and handed it to Fatimah. She looked at it through her teary eyes. It was a real pearl necklace.

" (As for) those who spend their property in the way.of Allah, then do not follow up what they have spent with reproach or injury, they shall have their reward from their Lord, and they shall have no fear nor shall they grieve." (2:262 Al Quran)

Just some parables from the Quran worth giving a thought... :)

Wassalam.
Rina
